General FAQs about the Parkwood Scholarships for Academic Excellence, 2008

What are the eligibility requirements to apply for the Parkwood Scholarships for Academic Excellence?

1.2 Can the candidates who have applied in previous years for the Parkwood Scholarship apply this year again?
Yes. However, submission of multiple applications in one year by the same candidate will result in the disqualification of the candidate.
   
1.3 How many scholarship seats are available in Academic Year 2008-2009?
 

There is no fixed number of Scholarship Seats. The Scholarship Committee has the discretion to offer any number of fresh scholarships.

     
1.4 What is the procedure to apply?
  Download the relevant Scholarship Application Form (SAF1 or SAF2)
  SAF1: For Admissions to Grades 5 to 9
  SAF2: For Admissions to Grade 11
  Fill in the SAF completely as per the instructions.
  Grade 11 Applicants are required to attach a photocopy of their 10th Grade Board Examination Hall Ticket.
  Send the Completed SAF along with the above enclosures by a reliable courier service to the Parkwood City Office located in Hyderabad. Please DO NOT send any communications/parcels to the School Campus.
  SAFs that are incomplete, illegible or not complying with the instructions provided are liable to be rejected.

What are the documents that I need to enclose with the Application Form?
  2 Recent Colour Photographs
  Demand Draft in favour of “Parkwood School International” payable at Hyderabad.
  A Copy of the latest Report Card from the present/last school attended
  Copies of certificates of any meritorious achievements
  Copy of your latest 10th Grade Board Examination Hall Ticket, if applicable.

What is the deadline for receipt of Applications?
 
Last date for receipt of Applications at the Parkwood City Office is Monday, 07-April-2008. However, late applications are also accepted. Please refer to FAQ#1.19 for more details.

Where will the interviews be held?
 
The short-listed candidates will be called for an interview that will be held at the Parkwood School Campus near Hyderabad. Please refer to the route map.

Is the Scholarship payable in Cash?
 
No. The Scholarships are for study at Parkwood School International only. Cash is not disbursed.

What is the tenure of the Scholarship?
 
The scholarship granted is for study up to the next Board Examination. For admissions in Grades 5 to 9, the scholarship is available up to Grade 10. For admissions in Grade 11, it is available for 2 years (Grades 11 & 12).

Can the Scholarship be cancelled or reduced during the study years?
 
Yes. The Scholarship is liable to be reduced or fully withdrawn under the following conditions, depending upon the nature and degree of Non-Compliance:
 
If it is found at any time that the Scholarship was secured through false or misleading or by furnishing incomplete information.
 
If the student does not perform to his/her expected Academic levels.
 
If the student is found to be violating the rules of the school.
 
If the parents are found violating the school rules.
 
If the student does not keep up to the acceptable norms of discipline or behaviour.

Can a scholarship student opt for the IGCSE Curriculum any time during the currency of the Scholarship?
 
Yes. The value of the scholarship is Rs. 180,000 [which is the Annual School Fee of the CBSE curriculum]. If a scholarship student opts for the IGCSE Curriculum at any time, then 50% of the difference between the CBSE endowment and the applicable IGCSE fee will have to be borne yearly.

What are the other costs to be borne if a candidate is awarded a scholarship?

Can my Scholarship Application be Rejected?
 
Parkwood School International reserves the right to reject any applications without citing any reasons.

Are scholarships offered for entry to Grade 10/12?
 
No. The scholarships are offered for Admissions into Grades 5 to 9 and to Grade 11 only. Admissions are not granted to Grade 10 and 12.

What are my options if my child does not secure a 100% Scholarship?
 
Scholarships are available in the quantum of 100%, 75%, 50% and 25%. If you do not qualify for a 100% scholarship, you may stand a chance for a scholarship of a lesser quantum.

Is weightage given to achievements in sports and extra-curricular activities?
 
Yes. In addition to a good academic record, achievements in sports and extra-curricular activities will enhance the application of the scholarship candidate.

Will the corrected answer scripts of the Scholarship Exam or the Aptitude Test be available for scrutiny by the candidate?
 
No student/parent or representative can demand to see the Corrected Answer Scripts. However, the Scholarship Committee, if it so deems fit, reserves the right to show the candidate/student these papers.

Will the Information furnished to the school remain confidential?
 
Yes. All information furnished to the school will remain fully confidential. However, if the Scholarship Committee deems it necessary, it will make necessary inquiries from the previous/present school about the student and his performance/conduct.

Can I apply for the Scholarship after the last date of 07-April-2008?
 
Applications received after 07-Apr-2008 are treated as late entries.
 
Late entries are accepted up to Monday, 14-April-2008.
 
The Late Registration Fee in such cases will be Rs. 1000.

FAQs specific to Candidates of Grades 5 to 9

2.1 What is the next step after I submit the Scholarship Application Form?
  After the submission of the completed Scholarship Application Form, you will be sent the Hall Ticket for the written examination. Please note that incomplete, illegible applications are liable to be rejected without any explanation.
   
2.2 How will the Hall Ticket be sent?
  The Hall Ticket will be sent through Speedpost to the Postal Address of the candidate given in the Application Form. Please note that writing the PIN Code is essential in all addresses. The school cannot be held liable for any delays or non-delivery of letters, irrespective of the reasons.
   
2.3 What are the subjects tested in the Scholarship Exam?
  The Scholarship Exam is conducted in English, Mathematics, Science and General Knowledge.
   
2.4 What is the pattern of the written examination?
  The Written Test will be of two-hour duration and covers four subjects – English, Science, Mathematics and General Knowledge, each of 50 marks. There are no long answers in Science, Mathematics and General Knowledge.
   
2.5 What is the syllabus of the Examination?
  The exam covers the concepts of the previous class. That is, if a student is writing the exam for entry to Grade 6, the syllabus will cover the concepts taught in Grade 5.
   
2.6 Is the written examination based on the CBSE syllabus?
  No. The examination is concept-oriented. Keeping in mind that the scholarship applicants may have studied under different boards, the examination tests those concepts that cuts across curricula of various boards and are essential for every child to know.
   
2.7 What is the preparation required for the General Knowledge paper?
  There is no fixed syllabus for the General Knowledge exam. This paper aims to test the general awareness of the candidate in current affairs, happenings in the world, as well as logical skills.
   
2.8 Is there negative marking in the examination?
  No
   
2.9 Will the writing stationary be provided at the examination venue?
  No. The candidate is required to bring his/her writing and geometrical instruments for the examination. However, the answers will have to be written in the Question Paper itself. (Please ensure the instrument box or any other material does not contain mathematical or conversion formulae). Calculators are not permitted.
   
2.10 What is the next step after the written examination?
  Following the written examination, the short-listed candidates will be intimated for a personal interview with the parents at the Parkwood School Campus.
   

FAQs specific to Candidates of Grade 11

3.1 Who is eligible to apply for Grade 11 Scholarships?
  Scholarships are available only to Indian resident nationals whose parents are also employed/working in India.
   
3.2 Does it matter which Board Examination the Applicant has appeared for at Grade 10 level?
  No. Students from all English Medium curricula (ICSE/CBSE/SSC/IGCSE etc) are eligible to apply for the scholarship of Grade 11. However, the final selection will be based on the weightages given to 10th Grade Board Examination Marks, the Aptitude Test and the Personal Interview.
   
3.3 What is the basis of selection for the award of the Scholarship?
  The Selection of Awardees will be based on:

The decision of the Scholarship Committee will be final and binding
   
3.4 Will the scores achieved in the 3 selection criteria be disclosed?
  No. None of the scores given by Scholarship Committee Members will be disclosed. The discretion of the Committee in awarding scores to applicants is final and binding. The Committee is not liable to offer any explanation or justification or disclose the basis/reasons for any decisions taken regarding the Scholarship Awards.
   
3.5 When will the Final List of Awardees be announced?
  The successful candidates under the categories of 100%, 75%, 50% and 25% will be informed by post/courier individually around the 13th/14th of May 2008. You can also call the school and check the status of your application.
   
3.6 Will there be a Second List of Awardees?
  In case of any vacancies that may arise due to the Non-Compliance of formalities by the Awardees of the First List, the Candidates from the Wait List will be intimated accordingly. This will be intimated by telephone or fax and they will be required to fulfill the formalities IMMEDIATELY.
   
3.7 What happens to the Scholarship Award if the Actual Marks secured in the 10th Grade Board Exam are substantially differing from the Projected marks furnished to the School?
  The two scenarios to this are:
  If the Actual Marks are less than the Projected. The Scholarship Committee reserves an unconditional right to re-evaluate your application with the Actual Marks and, if thought necessary, will revise/withdraw the Scholarship Award.
  If the Actual Marks are more than Projected. The Scholarship Committee may consider the Actual Marks and re-evaluate your application to ascertain if there is a scope for any additional benefits. If so, the same will be communicated to the candidate.
     
3.8 What are the different Study Streams available for CBSE +2?
  The following groups of study are available for Grades 11 and 12:
  1. Sciences – Life Sciences Group or Physical Sciences Group
  2. Commerce Group
