Circular No. 134 | Date: 27-Feb-2010

Expensive Personal Belongings of Students

It has been observed that some of the students are bringing expensive personal belongings, whether relevant in the school environment or not. The school strongly opposes such a display of extravagance/wealth by students and looks upon the parental cooperation to bring a halt to this trend immediately.

Generally, the items under reference are branded wrist watches, spectacles, perfumes, garments, footwear, writing instruments etc.

Apart from triggering an unhealthy “benchmarking race” amongst the students, it also puts pressure on the other parents to purchase/send such expensive items to the school.

With immediate effect:

Henceforth, the school shall have a right to confiscate items from the students which the school authorities deem as irrelevant and unnecessarily expensive in a boarding school environment.

Confiscated items will be returned to the parent only after a penalty of 20% of the value of a similar new item is levied & paid (as estimated by the school authorities). The discretion of deciding the value rests wholly with the school and shall be binding on the parent.

Students of Grades 6 and above are permitted to possess ONE wrist watch per head as follows:

Grades 6 to 8 Value not exceeding Rs.500
Grades 9 to 12 Value not exceeding Rs.1000

The School does not take the responsibility or guarantee any kind of safety to the personal belongings of the students, irrespective of the value of such items.
